The Inspiration: In the summer of 2024, I read a book that explored LGBTQIA+ rights and cis privilege surrounding dating in the trans community. When I brought it up in conversation, I kept hearing reactions like, “I’d need to know” or “that’s not right” which made me realize how much unconscious transphobia can exist, even among allies. I wanted to unpack that mindset, and this story grew from that impulse.

“First Date” premiered at the Reel Out Charlotte Film Festival where it won fan favorite. Most recently playing at the Greenpoint Film Festival in Brooklyn, and on deck to play at the ImageOut Rochester LGBTQ+ Film Festival in October.
